Re: The Standard of Danish Seafarers Union in USA.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

We are, on behalf of the branch, trying to localize above Standard and will be ever so grateful if you are able to assist us in this matter; further find included photos of the Standard (blue). From the beginning it was kept at the branch at 155 South Elliott Place in Brooklyn, then moved to our office at South Place (number now lost), then relocated to, 38 Pearl Street, NY. The where about, might now be at SIU’s Branch office at Battery Place in Manhattan.

We are representing Danish Seafarers Union in Denmark, and were among the New York Branch members who in 1963 initiated the member collection for this standard. In the photos you will see Johannes Nielsen, New York Office representative 1959-66, holding the standard. He held an American citizenship and later became the President of Danish Seafarers Union in Denmark. The undersigning Arne Johannes Olsen is former Vicepresident of Danish Seafarers Union in Denmark.

For many years seafarers who signed out from U.S.A. (New York, Baltimore, L.A. and San Francisco) has held annual gatherings in October in Copenhagen. Still this group amount to 80 members of which 20-25 are still active. It would mean ever so much to them to be able to present the standard at these gatherings, at celebrations and at funerals. Undersigning seaman Werner Woer is one of our regular standard bearers.

We look forward to hear from you and do not hesitate to contact us, in case any queries might appear.

Some of us are pensioners, but we would like to recompense all costs involved of the transaction and, if the situation calls for it, might even send one or two representatives to collect it, if the need appear.

Yours faithfully,

Arne J. Olsen                                                                    Werner Woer
